Judging For the Mercers Science and Engineering Fair
We always need more judges for the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair. If you have a college degree in math, science or engineering or have been working in the industry please contact us drop us an email note.
Typically you will be a judge in one of the three divisions: elementary (grade 4-5), junior (grades 6-8) and senior (grades 9-12). The first two are judged based on their presentation boards, lab notebooks and research papers. The senior division students are actually interviewed by the judges.
Judging takes place on Sunday evening from 5-7pm and Monday from 8am to 1pm (at the latest). Senior prejudging can be done on Sunday evening. Senior interviews are done on Monday. You must attend the Monday session if you are a senior judge. Sunday is optional for these judges. Elementary and junior division judges can attend either session.
Judging does not require any training although we will provide you with guidelines and judging materials. We normally pair new judges with experienced judges. Judges are assigned based on need (type of projects to be judged) and the judges background.
Good judges are required for a successful fair and it is a lot of fun too. We hope to see you at the fair.
