Project Review Process

The Safety Review Committee (SRC) reviews all project submissions.

Review types include:

Review TypeRequirementInitiated ByDetailsWhenResult
Project PrecertificationoptionalparticipantResearch plan and ISEF formsBefore project is started. Up to one month before fair registration closesApprove or reject
Safety ReviewrequiredSRCAll fields and final ISEF formsAfter your application has been submitted.Approve or disqualification

Precertification should be done for projects that need any ISEF forms other than Form 1, 1a and 1b. These involve things such as animals, people and micro organisms. If a project is rejected then it will likely be disqualified unless the issues identified are corrected.

The Safety Review is done on all projects prior to judging. It is started after registration ends.

Where Are Reviews Shown?

There is a Reviews column in Submissions tab that shows a table of all submissions. For most users there will be a single submission.

How to Interact During a Review

The link in the Reviews column for a review will display a page with a review overview a the top followed by a list of comments by date, newest first. Comments can be added at any time once a review has started by either you or the SRC. Emails will be automatically sent when a comment is added.

In general, comments will work in a request/response mode with the SRC typically asked for clarification or changes in an application and a response once those have been addressed. The SRC will change the overall review status once a final result has been determined. This is normally an approval.

If you do not receive an email when adding a comment then please contact the webmaster to determine why. You will still be able to see all the comments that have been posted.

Who Can See a Review

The review comments and status are only visible to you, the SRC and possibly an approved school manager/teacher.
