Research Plan:

We plan on seeing how other people have used certain ingredients in their recipes and see how that affect any aspects of the cupcake (wright density, and temperature ). More specifically  how baking soda affects the cupcake, because  it should be the thing making the cupcake rise.

Questions and Answers

1. What was the major objective of your project and what was your plan to achieve it?

Our major objective was to learn if the temperature  of the oven affects the weight of the cupcake.

    a. Was that goal the result of any specific situation, experience, or problem you encountered?

No, the only problem we encountered during our project was running out of food, so we had to shorten the amount of tests we did.

    b. Were you trying to solve a problem, answer a question, or test a hypothesis?

We were trying to answer the question "Does the temperature  of the oven affect the weight of the cupcake?"

2. What were the major tasks you had to perform in order to complete your project?

We had to conduct the experiment, and we had to write a question that met our ideas.

    a. For teams, describe what each member worked on.

In our team, Maya worked on writing the procedure, conducting the experiment ,  and finding a recipe. June worked on analyzing the data, and helping to conduct  the experiment, and the presentation .

3. What is new or novel about your project?

We have never conducted this experiment before.

    a. Is there some aspect of your project's objective, or how you achieved it that you haven't done before?

We have baked in the past, but we have never done it in the way where you have to change certain aspects to get another result.

    b. Is your project's objective, or the way you implemented it, different from anything you have seen?

We have never seen an experiment like this before and we wanted to think of something that no one has done before.

    c. If you believe your work to be unique in some way, what research have you done to confirm that it is?

We have researched our topic and have not found an experiment with the same procedure (or similar). In the past we are positive that people have tested our theory but doubled in the same way.

4. What was the most challenging part of completing your project?

The most challenging  part of the project was writing the procedure. This is so because we had to use the recipe that was online but rewrite it in our words. We had a hard time agreeing on what to put in the procedure, but in the end it all worked out.

   a. What problems did you encounter, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest problem that we encountered was having all of the ingredients for the project, originally we were going to triple the recipe, but we did not have enough of the ingredient to take as many tests.

   b. What did you learn from overcoming these problems?

We learned that we are going to have to be more prepared and that we are going to have to take more precautions in how big we are going to be making  the work of our experiment.

5. If you were going to do this project again, are there any things you would do differently the next time?

If I were to do this project again we would probably redo the procedure, and try to make the cooking time faster. That delayed the process of the project.

6. Did working on this project give you any ideas for other projects?

Working on this project gave us the idea to work on another project where we measure the color of the cupcake, and maybe add different ingredients  and see if we cook it at a higher temperature  will it be brown or will it stay yellow?

7. How did COVID-19 affect the completion of your project?

Covid-19 did not affect the making of our project, but it would have if we were trying to complete this in 2020 because we would have to take safety  precautions.
